HOW ARE LENSES ADAPT ?
Like shoes, lenses are available in different sizes. Everyone knows their shoe-size, but nobody knows their eye-size. This has to be measured. With a classic lens their are 2 points measured: the horizontal and vertical curve of the centrum of the cornea (=frontside of the eye). With the new system that we have, their are 6480 points measured with the help of 3 video camera's and this over a zone of 9 mm, so we get a perfect 3-dimensional image of the cornea. So we have a better image of the eye. The computer can even do more! It is possible that the computer chooses a hard lens out of the assortment. Or even better: A specialist company can make hard lenses based on our measurements.
WHY CUSTOM-MADE LENSES ?
You can compare a hard lens with a booth that must float freely on the tearfluid. With a perfect even eyeball that isn't a problem. But this is different in practice. The eyeball isn't always round. There are a few pits. We even can say: no eyeball is the same. Because of the sometimes inconstant form of the eyeball the lensbooth can scour against the bottom. On the spot excist (sometimes) irritation or a wound. You can experiment with bigger or smaller lenses, but this mostely doesn't help. Even the computer shows this. You can simulate a standard lens on the measured eye. On the screem you can so if the lens hookes up or not. If you can't find a standard lens, that fits, than you must take a custom made lens. Only that way you can avoid irregularity on the eyeball. Because alle eyes are different, we better look before wich eye type you have. When the pits aren't to heavy, the computer will propose a standard program (advantage: quickly delivery). If the computer can't find a standard lens, it will suggest a custom made lens. The delivery-time is 1 or 2 days longer, but the comfort is higher. Currently we can even suggest custom made lenses at the same price.
HOW ARE THE MEASUREMENTS DONE ?
The patiënt has to take place in front of a cone-shaped device, that is connected to a computer. Faraway, behind the kaleidoscopic cirkels, a little green light blinks. The device is centered on the eye. Suddenly the light flashes and the measurement is done. The shots only take 2 seconds. Than the computer calculates and processes the measurements to a 3dimensional image. This images looks like a map from an atlas where different colors show the differences in height. Deepred means peaks. Blue means a stretch. Afterwards you can simulate lenses on the eye. Done with trying all the possible sizes and diameters. The computer does a smart premolar, that makes the work of the specialist easier and in shorter time.
HOW ARE CUSTOM MADE LENSES MADE ?
The device company Eyesys has managed to develop software and hardware that transforms the eye into a map. Via a modemconnection it is possible to send the measured data - "topography" to the lenscompayny, who makes the lenses. This doesn't cost more than normal lenses.
PROBLEMS WITH LENSES?
The device also offers an other application: Problems with lenses are mostly owing to the bad size of the lens: to tight / to loose. Because the lens deforms the cornea (and sometimes even damaging) their are irritation complaints. With this device you can easily trace the deformed peaces and you also can follow the healing proces.
