HARD CONTACT LENSES FOR HARD MEN
In theory, the eye is better off with hard than with soft lenses, hard lenses because the material is better and it sucks up less dirt and microbes. Patients with these lenses can also continue to bear lenses much longer, while most soft contact lens wearers get in trouble after 5 to 10 y.
REQUIRED MATERIALS
- Detergent: Total Care cleaner (or Boston Cleaner / Polyclens)
- Conservation liquid: Total Care (or Unique Ph (= optisoak), Conditioning Solution, Soaclens)
- Viapack (NaCL 0.9%) for irrigation of the Baxter (available from pharmacies) is for rinsing.
- Possibly: Blink Hyabak / total care enzyme tablets
USE
- Wash hands (do not use makeup or hand cream for the manipulation of the lenses).
- Remove the contactlens with a piston. Make sure that the lens is at its normal location, Otherwise you can damage the cornea. If you do not have a piston then follow these steps for the right lens: keep your left hand under your eye, place the index finger of your hand against the right outer corner, look for your palm, your eye open as widely as possible, pull your corner with your index finger slightly upward and outward, the lens in your palm. Always start right. So you never change the lenses.
- Cleaning of contactlenses: Daily! Three drops, lens in the palm and rub for 15 to 20 seconds with the index finger of other hand.
- Rinse with saline (or even Spa Reine) in a small pot.
- The container filled with enough fluid. The lenses should never run dry. Observe the drying of the liquid, if you want to keep the lenses for a long time.
- The morning after: flush the lenses to remove any dust and put them in. . Best always start with the Re lens. So you never change your lenses.
- What if the lens doesn't fall on the cornea? First of all one reassurance: The lens can't get behind your eye! Technique: Look in the mirror and turn your eyes around the lens so you can locate. Then creep the lens on the right place.
EXTRA TIPS
- Are you troubled with uncomfortable during wear (a dry or burning sensation), put Lacrystat in your eye and this while wearing the lenses (four or five times a day). Even better is a lubricating gel (eg Vidisic / Lacrinorm Others)
- Do not forget your weekly intensive cleaning of your container
- You may not sleep with your lenses!
- Do not use powdered makeup around the eye.
