“I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS
BUT..... .. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG”
SOME ALARM SIGNS LET U SUSPECT AN EYE DISEASE. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO A OPHTALMOLOGIST
CHILDREN
1) MY NEWBORN CHILD CAN'T BEAR THE LIGHT:
This phenomen can point to a congenital high eye pressure. Sometimes you can see a larger eye and a matt effect of the eye
2) NOW AND THEN THE EYE TURNS AWAY:
Till 6 months a child may look squint. Afterwards not. The ophtalmologist will look if it realy is strabismus. If it is, then you will have to cover the good eye so the other eye practice to look straight and possibly the opthalmologist will prescribe glasses. When it isn't better after a fiew months it will be necessary to operate.
3) MY CHILD LOOKS TV AT A VERY CLOSE DISTANCE:
When children sit at a close distance in front of the tv, it can point to myopia (good close look / less good look far away) . This can be solved very easly with glasses. Only when you need glass of -2.5, the glasses need to be worn all the time. Lenses are also a solution.
ADULTS
4) FLASHES
a) MOMENTARY (a fraction of a second)
If you see flashes sometimes, it can be a sign of early vitreous detach. This is (most of the times) a normal age-related phenomenon. Sometimes this phenomenon can cause retina rips or retina release. In that case is making an appointement with your ophtalmologist recommended.
b) ENLARGING DURING 15 MINUTES
Flashes, who get bigger gradual (you see a jagged rim or a broken mirror – the image shakes a little bit ) , can be a sign of eye migraine. After 15 to 30 minutes these phenomenons are mostly done and then comes a pounding headache that lean toward cede.
5) WHEN I'M READING MY ARMS ARE TO SHORT
From 40 to 45 years everyone experience that readings gets difficult. You can solve this temporaly by holding your text farther away, but little by little your arms get to short. A good reading glasses is a better solution. Every 3 years those glasses must be reinforced untill the age of 60. Afterwards it goes slower.
6) MY EYES BURN:
Burning eyes mostly point to dry eyes, because of quality loss of the tears. We see this phenomenon often with rheuma patients or menopausal women. This can be resolved with artificial tears.
7) I SEE BLOTS
a) MOBILE:
Mobile blots, who you can see very well on a white background, point to vitreous flakes. Those arise when the vitreous detaches from the retina, what a normal age-related phenomenon is. The old connection between the retina and the vertreous are the cause of those blots.
b) STICK:
A stuck blot, is mostly a serious eye-disease. It can go from a banal bleeding to a serious phenomenon, such as inflammation / wear processes or even eye cancer (this is very infrequent).
SENIORS
8) METAMORPHOSIS= seeing crooked lines
This phenomenon usually has to do with worn-out processes in the central part of the retina. Consult your ophtalmologist, we can solve this problem easily with injections or laser.
9) RAINBOWS AROUND LAMPS
Colored rings in all colors of the rainbow round lamps, can point to a sudden pressure-rise. You can also feel a little bit unwell. Consult your ophtalmologist as fast as possible, those phenomenons get badder very fast. The ophtalmologist can solve this problem very easy with laser. Their must be made a little whole in the iris. You won't feel a thing. A hospitalization isn't necessary.
10) I CAN SUDDENLY READ WITHOUT MY GLASSES
When you can suddenly can read without glasses on age 70 to 80: this points to a increasing myopia. Usually caused by clouding of the lens = cataract. When the far sight slims down, it can be fixed by an cataract-operation.
11) I GET REALY QUICK DAZZLED BY THE SUN
Increased dazzling by the sun with seniors, mostly points at cataract. When this increases, you better operate. You can always wear sunglasses or a cap with a large visor to get your eyes out of the sun.
EVERYBODY
12) I GET HEADACHE WHEN I READ OR WATCH TV
Headache with visual effort mostly indicate that you need glasses.
13) SOMETIMES MY EYES ARE RED
Red eyes mostly point at eye inflammation. Even when you don't feel anything, you better make an appointement with your ophtalmologist. Inflammation, that stays a while, can damage the eye.
