SURGERY FOR HYPEROPIA

(= farsightedness = positive correction of glasses)

-less than 20 years: contact lenses, because hyperopia (farsightedness) can still evolve. If you have problems with your current lenses, you can always try super lenses (hold more water / let more oxygen through ).

-between 20 and 40 years:
few possibilities between +1 and +3 : femtolasik , but that does not always give a stable result above +3: implantation of hard contact lens (artisan lens= irisclaw lens) if there is enough space in the antechamber. Implantation of a soft lens (ICL) is sometimes possible if a hard lens cannot be used. But this also requires sufficient space

-more than 45 years: the most commonly used solution From this age we sometimes see the beginning of cataracts (= clouding of the eye lens). In that case it is better to remove the clouded lens at an early stage instead of using another refraction technique. After all, by applying a new artificial lens, it is also possible to achieve that the correction of the glasses is very close to zero. Reading requires another pair of glasses. Usually we solve this by making one eye (= the dominant eye) a little more nearsighted. In this way you can look far with one eye and read with one eye ("mono vision" ). With light double vision glasses you can make both eyes look far and both eyes can read. In this way you will not lose the optimal vision. Double vision implant lenses are also a possibility, but we know that some patients do not tolerate them well. It is difficult to predict in advance who this will be. That is why we have personally chosen not (yet) to apply double vision implant lenses.

IMPORTANT REMARK
If, in addition to hyperopia, there is also astigmatism, you should know that astigmatism can only be partially resolved with ordinary ("spherical") implant lenses. Sometimes a "fine-tuning" is done after 3 months with lasik, in order to get rid of the residual astigmatism as well. Since 2015 there are toric implant lenses that do give good results !
