ANTI FATIGUE GLASS
* extra +add in the inferior part of the glasses for reading (going from +0.5 to +1 ) - a cheap multifocal for young people
THE ESSENCE :
To read, the lens has to “accommodate”. The eyemuscle has to contract a little and that makes the lens convex. This is a big effort for such small muscle, certainly when you want to read for hours.
When getting older the lens gets stiffer, so this proces gets harder and harder. It becomes a real problem from the age of 40 a 45 years on : you have to hold the reading text further away. After a while you can't read anymore without glasses. The first aid that we prescribe for better reading : a light positive glass of +1,00. You can use an aid for accommodation sooner: anti-fatigue glasses with +0.6 dioptrie extra at the bottom part of your glasses . When you wear those glasses when you read, it gives a more relaxed sensation for your eyes. So you can read and study longer, without eye complaints (irritation / burning feeling) and less headache! More comfort for your eyes !
MORE EXPLANATION:
1. IS THERE SOMETHING LIKE VISUAL FATIGUE ?
Yes, it's a common problem. You get it when you work a couple of hours at short distance. It's no eye disease but it is caused by visual effort. You can just stop your visual work at close distance and everything will go better.
2. WHAT ARE THE COMPLAINTS WITH VISUAL FATIGUE ?
· Tearing
· Burning or red eyes
· Dry eyes
· Itchy eyelids
· Headache
· Blurry vision
· Loss of concentration loss
· Reading problems
3. WHEN WILL YOU GET VISUAL FATIGUE ?
· Environmental factors: bright light, stress, airconditioning…
· The eye: Eyeproblems (such as inflammation, need of glasses and diseases that damage the clarity of the eye
· General state: exhaustion / stress
· Type of work: prolonged near-work (reading), definitely when you have to switch the fixation distance regularly : reading text (30 cm) to computer distance (50 cm )
4. WHO CAN BE HELPED WITH ANTI-FATIGUE GLASSES?
. People between 6 and 45 years, who often do close work (eg computer work / study). They don't need to wear glasses all the time. Above the age of 45 years, multifocal glasses are used.
. The anti-fatigue ·glasses can be used "as a therapye" when there are already complaints, eg. with
people who regularly experience a feeling of tired eyes. These glasses can also be used
as "prevention ": Anti-Fatigue lenses will provide more comfort to read. So you can go on reading for a longer period. So more points in class !
5. ARE MY EYES GETTING LAZY WHEN I CHOOSE FOR ANTI-FATIGUE GLASSES?
Anti-Fatigue lenses are like a bicycle: You can go on foot to work or school or you can opt for the bike. The bike is much faster and you can go on longer. After use of the bike you can still walk as before. If you have the possibility of a bicycle you will soon decide to use the bike, because you know it is much easier. The support of the accommodation works the same: the anti-fatigue glasses are a help that supports the natural accommodation for 0.6 diopter. These is not a replacement. The total needed accommodation is always approximately 2.50 dpt. You must still do the lions share of the effort yourself. If you tried once anti-fatigue glasses , you would like to return to thel, because you know that it was much o mfortable! Your eyes are nog becoming lazy! You can read afterwards without glasses. , as well as before.
6. PROPERTIES OF GLASS:
-
The accommodation is supported by a positive add in the inferior part of the glass. It looks like a multifocal glas but the price is much cheaper and close to that of an ordinary "monofocal" glass. So you get an optimal correction for far (superior part of the glass) and near (bottom part of the glass). This results in more immediate comfort for near vision and delays visual fatigue. µ
-
These lenses are also aspherical (read: no optical distortion, which used to be a problem with multifocal double glasses).
-
These glasses are suitable for each frame type.
7. WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT OF ANTI-FATIGUE GLASSES?
Wearers compared Anti-Fatigue glasses with standard unifocal glasses (same correction, refractive index
and antiglare). They tested the glasses under everyday conditions, with
more than 4 hours per day computer work . Each group has worn the glasses two weeks. The results :
· 94% of the wearers choosed the anti - fatigue glasses
· 74% of the wearers h less problems with visual fatigue
8. OTHER TIPS:
-
Light-tinted glasses, which change in color (fotochromatic glasses ) can also help to support stronger light.
-
Make sure that you don't stare too much! Too little blinking gives a burning eye sensation and a sensation of fatigue . Thus: Blink more! Consider using artificial tears, eg Ocugel or Blink (contacts).
-
Hold the text to be read not too close . Ideal distance: 30 cm
-
Reading with 1 eye may sometimes be easier than reading with two eyes. It can be an option to cover 1 glass (by taping the eyeside of the glass). It's better to use the dominant eye (= the eyen that you uses to look through a hole )

EASY VISION: anti-fatigue glasses make reading easy again
It may also used by children.
New name : "Anti-fatigue glasses" became "Eyezen" glasses
