WHAT IS CATARACT:
//
Cataract is the clouding of the lens in the eye. During the operation not the whole lens is removed, we consider the les as a grape. The frontside of the lens is pricked and threw the opening (linear of circular) the lensnucleus is removed ("the seeds of the grape"). Afterwards the cortex is removed. That way a thin saccular membrane is left: a kind of envelope. In this bag the IOL is inserted, like a letter in an envelope. With time that envelope can get cloudy. That way your vision will get blurry slowly after surgery. With laser we can make a hole in the blurry membrane.
HOW :
- When you arrive they will give you pupil dilating eye drops
- You will sit at a microscope.
- A little lens is placed on your eye to enlarge the image of the blurry membrane. You won't feel this because your eyes are numbed with drops!
- With bright light pulses (they can dazzle you the first moment) the laser will make small holes in the membrane. This is painless (you can only feel little shocks). The treatment takes +- 3 minutes.
- After the treatment you will be blinded the first minutes. After some hours the drops will be worked out and your vision will get better. You can see black spots floating. These pots are loose membrane fragments and will sink after a few days.
- A controle after 1-3 weeks will happen to estimate your vision improvement. If you feel pain of significant reduction of your vision you need to contact the doctor
