PRK: LASER WITHOUT FLAP

LASIK IN 8 STEPS
1) The eye is prepared for laser: Anestetic / eyespeculum against blinking.
2) The flap is cut.
3) The cutting machine doesn't cut the flap completely so their is still a hinge.
4) The flap is opened, but is still attached to the eye with the hinge.
5) The laser cuts the eye correction in to the cornea (myopia (-) or hypermetropia (+) / cylinders).
6) A negative correction (for myopia) is a little pit.
7) The flap is replaced nicely without any folds. The eye sucks the flap back on itself, so no stitches are required.
8) The final result.

WHY IS THERE A FLAP NECESSARY ?
Laser is performed since 1986. Initially just the cornea was treated. But that gave an injury, which gave much pain for 2 days. Moreover, the body feels the "pit" and wants to fil it . So some of the treatment is lost. So, at that time, it was needed to give a little overtreatment: . You had to bring a -5 to +2.5 (=half overcorrection) te become zero in two months . Result: you had two days a lot of pain and the first 2 months your vision was blurred by the over-correction (especially the first weeks). Lasik (laser under flap) is applied since 1996. Simply by putting the flap back over the cutted lens gave little or no pain and you experience no regression of the result !
