BLEPHAROPLASTY: SURGERY AT THE LEVEL OF THE EYELIDS

Problem
Too much skin around the eyes (dermatochalasis)

Causes
Dermatochalasis is usually caused by aging of the skin. This weakens the skin and you get a surplus of skin (especially at the upper eyelids).
Sometimes the fat that is normally in the eye socket, also protrude.
This causes full eyelids at the lower eyelids or local eyelid swelling in the corner on the side of the nose.
Sometimes this is accompanied by a weakening of the scalp, therefore sinks the eyebrows.
This may make that the outcome of blepharoplasty is disappointing, because only a limited part of the skin of the upper eyelids can be cut away.
The sagging of the scalp must be solved by a (small) facelift. This should be done by a plastic surgeon.

Complaints:
• The excess of the skin at the upper eyelids has functional problems: sight reduction / pressure / tired feeling at the eyelids
• Purpose of the operation: We will choose the European attitude towards plastic surgery. That means: we aim that your environment notice that you look good. Without it is obvious that you had surgery on the eyes. In other words, we try not to overdo the correction.

Conduct of the operation:
Initially, the surgion marks on the eyelids which part of the skin can be removed.
Hereafter local anesthetic injections are given under the skin which needs to be removed.
These injections are somewhat painful, roughly comparable to the anesthetic at the dentist.
After the anesthetic you feel little or nothing of the operation.
Your face will be disinfected, you get sterile drapes over you, but your face is not covered. At the end of the surgery, the wound stitched with very fine suture material.
The procedure takes about 1 hour.

The result
The eyelid skin heals with almost no scar (partly because there is very fine suture material used).
The possible small scar is still in the eyelid fold, so it's hardly seen.
Only when you look down, you may notice something.

Aftercare
The wound does not need care, unless some isobetadine in fear of contamination. After 5 days the stitches are removed.

Tips if the scar is too noticeable
A scar can be smooth massaged - wait 14 days after removal of the sutures. Do this 3 X / day. You can use a moisturizing cream like nivea. Finish always with sun cream!

Use a good sun cream for 3 months (even though there is not enough sun) because scars can pigment very fast by exposure to the sun and that is permanent.

For upper blepharoplasty is the price 400 € / eye .

The following movie shows in a nice way how an upper blepharoplasty happened. We do not fit general anestesie, but only local anestesie: 4 fine injections per eye. The green contact lenses are used for eye protection, but with local anestesie it's not necessary.
